The Lady Liberty Statue on Alki Beach was a community gathering place following the attacks in New York on September 11, 2001. Years later, the statue was damaged and was removed for repair. Community members joined together to raise the money to restore the statue, and on September 11, 2007, Tom and Mayor Nickels joined to rededicate the statue and to begin efforts to raising funds for a new pedestal.
